Relief Sculpture

Artwork that projects from the flat background material. Relief sculptures come in low, high and sunken. These are all based on different degrees of projection, how high off the base the design comes. 

Relief Sculptures are created by chiseling and carving. Utilizing a subtractive manner to remove the material to reveal the sculpture. This sculptural method is utilized more in architecture and more versatile than other sculpture techniques due to its ability to hold up in all conditions.
